Booksy's US pricing page lists a $29.99 monthly subscription with $20 a month for each extra user, so a solo barber's fixed cost is one line. The lines that move are Boost, which charges a share of a new client's first visit, and card processing, which charges a share of every card payment.
Quick answer
- Fixed: $29.99 a month with every feature included, $20 a month per extra user, plus tax, with a 14-day free trial and no card needed (Booksy pricing, checked 2026-10-13).
- Boost: free to switch on, then 30% of a new client's first visit, at least $10 and never more than $100. Later visits from that client carry no Boost fee.
- Cards: 2.49% plus $0.10 on the Booksy reader, 2.49% plus $0.20 on Tap to Pay, 2.69% plus $0.30 for cards on file, keyed-in cards, deposits and cancellation fees.
- The test of Boost is one division: Boost fees paid, divided by the clients it brought who came back.
What does one month's bill look like, line by line?
Read it as a list of events. Each charge starts with something happening in your shop or on your phone.
| Line | What triggers it | Published amount | How to keep it down |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscription | The month rolling over | $29.99, plus tax | Count real users; each extra one adds $20 |
| Extra user | Adding a staff member | $20 a month each | Remove people who left (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13); on an App Store subscription the price does not drop by itself |
| Boost fee | A new client from the marketplace finishes a first visit | 30% of that visit, $10 minimum, $100 maximum | Turn Boost off when the chair is full |
| Card reader sale | A card tapped, dipped or swiped | 2.49% + $0.10 | Use the reader in the shop; a keyed-in card costs 2.69% + $0.30 |
| Tap to Pay sale | A card or wallet tapped on your phone | 2.49% + $0.20 | Needs no reader, but costs $0.10 more per payment |
| Card on file, keyed-in card, deposit, cancellation fee | A payment taken online, typed in or charged later | 2.69% + $0.30 | Set deposits only where no-shows hurt |
| Chargeback | A client disputes a payment | $20 | Keep a clear cancellation policy in view at booking |
| Fast payout | You want money in 30 minutes | 1.5% | Use the free next-business-day payout |
| Card reader (one time) | Buying a reader | $53.10 (Stripe Reader M2) or $299 (Stripe Reader S710), plus shipping | Start on Tap to Pay if your phone supports it |

These are Booksy's US prices in US dollars. Booksy runs separate country sites with their own prices (its UK page lists £40 a month and £5 per extra user), and I found no Canadian business pricing page, so a shop outside the US should confirm the price at sign-up (Booksy UK pricing, checked 2026-10-13).
What exactly does Boost charge, and when?
Boost is Booksy's marketplace promotion: when it is on, your business gets better visibility on the marketplace and in the Booksy for Customers app (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). There is no monthly fee. When Booksy finds a new client for you, you pay a one-time commission on the first visit and keep 100% of later appointments, and the tip is always yours (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13).
The rate is 30% on the pricing page. The help article sets a $10 minimum for free services or for services where 30% comes to less than $10, and a $100 maximum on a client's first visit. If the first visit has several services, the commission is worked out per service and added up. It is charged only for visits that took place, so a new client who no-shows should be marked as one the same day.
Booksy's blog has an older Boost post, dated November 18, 2020, that gives a $150 cap for standard services (Booksy blog, checked 2026-10-13). The current help article, Boost page and pricing page say $100, so I use $100.
Add-ons are left out of the calculation: commission is based on the service's base price (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13).
How does Booksy decide a client is new?
The pages I read give no matching formula. Booksy's Boost page says the commission applies when a client books with you for the first time while Boost is on (Booksy Boost, checked 2026-10-13), and the pricing page says no commission applies to clients who find you through your own marketing.
The practical rule comes from Booksy's own advice on avoiding wrong charges. Add walk-ins to your Booksy contact list before they leave, put your profile link on your website and business cards, and check that the Book Now buttons on Instagram and Facebook point to that link (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). The profile link and QR code are under Profile, then Share Profile (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13).
If a client is billed as a Boost client but came from you, claim them. Boost lives under Marketing, then Boost, where the Turn on button sits (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13); Booksy's own advice is to turn it off when you are booked up with regulars.
Is Boost worth it for me?
Answer it with a count from your own Boost screen. Booksy's Boost details page shows the total new clients received through Boost, total returning clients and claimed clients, plus what Booksy labels the month's Boost profit and lifetime Boost profit (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13).
Illustrative: the figures below are invented for an imaginary solo barber, and none comes from a client.
He runs one chair, so there is no extra-user charge. In the month, Boost brings 6 new clients, each on a $40 haircut. Four more new clients book through his own Instagram button, which points to his profile link. He takes $3,000 in card sales across 75 payments on the Booksy reader, and charges one $20 cancellation fee.
| Line | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription | Published base price | $29.99 |
| Boost | 6 clients x ($40 x 30% = $12) | $72.00 |
| Reader sales | $3,000 x 2.49% = $74.70, plus 75 x $0.10 = $7.50 | $82.20 |
| Cancellation fee | $20 x 2.69% = $0.538, plus $0.30 | $0.84 |
| Total before tax | $185.03 |
Two of the six Boost clients booked a second visit. Boost cost per returning client is the Boost fees divided by those who came back: $72 / 2 = $36. The four Instagram clients cost $0 in Boost fees.
If those two returning clients each spend $40 a visit and return five more times in a year, that is $400 of later visits with no Boost fee. Set that $400 beside the full $72, because the four who never came back are part of what those two cost.
Repeat it with your own numbers. Divide this month's Boost fees by the Boost clients who rebooked, then set that beside what your link brings in at no Booksy commission. For Boost counted the same way next to a Google Search campaign, see salon advertising.
Can I stop paying card fees by passing them on?
In some US states, yes. Booksy's platform fee lets you pass all or part of processing to the client: either the client pays 3.5% plus $0.10 and you pay no transaction fee, or you split it, paying 1% while the client pays 2.5% plus $0.10. It is not available in CA, MA, CO, CT, MN, VA or NY, and it does not apply to cancellation fees and deposits (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). Check your state's rules on surcharging before you switch it on; I am not a lawyer.
What do deposits and no-show fees cost, and what do they need?
Both sit under No-Show Protection, and Mobile Payments must be enabled first (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). A deposit takes part or all of the service price at booking, and it cannot be less than $5 (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). A cancellation fee takes the client's card at booking, and you charge it when the client cancels late or doesn't show. Each one is processed at 2.69% plus $0.30, and the platform fee above cannot be applied to either.
With automatic charging switched on, Booksy charges the fee at the end of each business day for every appointment marked as a no-show, so mark it right away. In the Booksy Biz mobile app, automatic charges cannot be turned off (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13).
Texts are billed separately. Booksy's pricing page says plans include 2,000 free marketing SMS a month and that confirmations and reminders are always free (Booksy pricing, checked 2026-10-13); I found no published price for marketing texts past that number. In Canada, a promotional text or email needs the recipient's express or implied consent first under Canada's anti-spam law (Justice Laws, CASL s. 6, checked 2026-10-13).
Can Booksy show which ads bring paying clients?
Only for Boost, and only as counts. The Boost details show new, returning and claimed clients, and what Booksy calls the month's Boost profit. In the 255 articles of Booksy's US help center on 2026-10-13, none describes sending a booking to Google Ads or GA4 (Google's free website analytics); the Google ones cover Google Business Profile, Reserve with Google and Google Pay.
The one tracking mention is in the Facebook Book Now setup: it asks you to pick a Meta Pixel (Meta's tracking code), which Booksy says is added to your profile "for tracking availability and the like", without saying which booking events it records (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13). The help center also does not say whether a tag on your profile link stays with the booking, so ask before relying on a tagged booking link. The count you control is your own: tag each new client's card with where they came from, under Edit, then Additional Info (Booksy help, checked 2026-10-13), and count second visits by tag.
Vagaro and Fresha bill on different lines, so see Vagaro pricing and Fresha pricing.
What should I ask Booksy before I sign?
- How is a "new client" matched: by phone number, email, or name, and how long back does it look?
- Does the 30% apply to the price before or after a discount or a package?
- With Boost off, where does my free marketplace listing show next to shops that have it on?
- Will the $29.99 and the $20 per extra user stay the same after the trial, and how much notice comes before a price change?
- What does a marketing text cost once the 2,000 free ones in a month are used?
- Can I export every client's booking source with the date and amount paid, and does a tag on my profile link survive into it?

Frequently asked questions
What is a Booksy charge on my statement?
Usually the subscription or a Boost fee. The subscription bills automatically every month, and Booksy's billing page says the same payment method is used for Boost fees if Boost is on ([Booksy help](https://support.booksy.com/hc/en-us/articles/16460188722322-How-do-I-manage-my-Booksy-subscription-payments), checked 2026-10-13). The other costs Booksy lists are card processing fees, a $20 chargeback fee, and a card reader if you bought one.
Does Booksy charge a fee when a client I already have books online?
Not for Boost. Booksy's pricing page charges the Boost commission only for clients who book you for the first time while Boost is on, and says no commission applies to clients who find you through your own marketing, or to bookings made while Boost is off ([Booksy pricing](https://biz.booksy.com/pricing), checked 2026-10-13). Card fees still apply to whatever is paid by card.
Can I stop a Boost charge for a client who was already mine?
Booksy lets you file a claim. In the Boost details screen you click Claim next to the client, pick a reason and send it, and Booksy says a confirmed claim is refunded within 14 business days. The deadline is the end of your billing period plus 7 days ([Booksy help](https://support.booksy.com/hc/en-us/articles/16486241050514-How-do-I-claim-a-client-on-Boost), checked 2026-10-13).
Do Booksy's no-show tools cost extra?
Not as a monthly fee. Booksy's pricing page lists No-Show Protection among the features it does not charge extra for, with a note that standard Mobile Payment processing fees apply, and its help page puts deposits and cancellation fees at 2.69% plus $0.30 each ([Booksy pricing](https://biz.booksy.com/pricing), checked 2026-10-13; [Booksy help](https://support.booksy.com/hc/en-us/articles/16465247608594-How-much-does-it-cost-to-process-payments-through-Booksy), checked 2026-10-13).
Can Booksy tell me which Google or Instagram ad brought a client?
Not from anything in its US help center. Boost details count new, returning and claimed clients, but for Boost only, and no help article describes sending a booking to Google Ads or GA4. The Facebook Book Now setup adds a Meta Pixel to your profile, but Booksy does not say which booking events it records, so tag each new client with their source yourself and count who comes back.
