The Bark starter pack is the first credit pack Bark suggests to professionals. Bark credits cost a standard $2.35 each in the US, less in bigger packs, and each one goes toward contacting a customer who posted a request. Each lead shows its price in credits before you respond, and Bark's help center gives no dollar price for the starter pack.
This is Bark.com for pros, the lead marketplace, not the parental-control app. A lead is worth buying only when the credits spent on a batch of contacts come back as paid jobs. Up to five professionals can answer the same request, so price every contact as a shared one.
Quick answer
- You pay in credits to contact a customer who posted a request. Joining and receiving leads is free.
- Up to 5 professionals can respond to one customer, and you see how many already have before you buy.
- Bark's US help center lists a standard rate of $2.35 per credit. It gives no pack prices, so ask what yours costs before you pay.
- Credits expire after 3 months, so size your first pack to what you can use in that time.
- Give Bark its own source label in your job list. Judge it by paid jobs per pack, not by replies.
What the Bark starter pack includes
The Starter Pack is Bark's suggested way to begin. Bark's help center says it holds enough credits to contact roughly 10 customers and adds a free Elite Pro trial.
Your first Starter Pack also carries the Get Hired Guarantee, covered below.
Does the customer hear from other pros too?
Yes. Bark's help center says each customer can receive up to 5 responses, and that you can see how many have already responded before you decide to buy. A lead nobody has answered yet carries a "1st to respond" tag. So 5 is a ceiling: one lead may reach you first, another after four rivals have replied.
Once you buy, Bark tells the customer that a professional is interested. Its own advice is to call first and then follow up with a message. Read the response count as part of the price. A cheaper lead that already has four replies can be the worse buy.
What exactly does a credit buy?
A credit pays for your first contact with a customer. According to Bark's pricing page, paying to respond gets you the customer's phone number and email, and you can also write through Bark's Messenger. Follow-up messages are free. Bark says it charges no commission, so what you earn from the job is yours.
You see a lead's cost in credits before you respond. The pricing page sets that cost from the service, the job's value, and supply and demand in the area. The help center adds how ready the customer is to hire. Its example: a one-time clean of a 2-bedroom apartment costs fewer credits than a weekly clean of a 4-bedroom house.
In dollars, the US help center lists a current standard rate of $2.35 per credit. It says the rate varies with the pack, and bigger packs cost less per credit. It names no pack sizes or prices.
Elite Pro, Bark's paid subscription, adds 2 free leads a week on leads with no response after 48 hours, 20% off credit packs and a higher place in the list customers see. That article does not state what Elite Pro costs.
Which kinds of work does Bark list in the US?
Bark's US pricing page groups services under Business, Events & Entertainers, Health & Wellness, House & Home, Lessons & Training and More. Named examples include House Cleaning, Gardening, Gutter Cleaning, Fence & Gate Installation, Personal Trainers, Accounting and General Photography. The page lists city pages for seven cities, including Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York City.
A service on that list does not promise requests in your area. Before paying, open Bark's lead list for your category and ZIP code and see whether requests appear.
Canada has its own pricing page with the same credit wording. Its help center lists a different per-credit rate, so check the figure for your own country.
What does the guarantee cover?
Bark's US pricing page promises to "return all your credits" if your first credit pack wins no business. The help center gives the terms under the name Get Hired Guarantee. It covers your first Starter Pack or first app purchase.
You qualify once all of these are true:
- You have used your eligible credits, or have too few left for another lead.
- At least 3 calendar days have passed since your last lead purchase.
- You have not been marked as hired on Bark.
- The guarantee has not already been claimed for this purchase.
You get back the credits you used, not the full pack. They come as credits rather than money. Claims go through Bark support. The page does not say who marks you as hired, so ask before you rely on it.
Bad leads are a separate route on any purchase. You can ask for the credits back within 14 days, Bark aims to answer within 48 hours, and returns are at its discretion.
The eligible reasons include an invalid phone number or email, a fake or mistaken request and a job seeker posing as a customer. A customer who hired someone else or never replied does not qualify. Keep each contact's purchase date so you know which ones are still inside the window.
What should I record to see whether Bark pays?
Give every Bark contact its own source label in your job list or CRM (the software that holds your customers), the same way you would label a referral. If you use call tracking, give Bark its own phone number; see best call tracking software for how that works.
Between October 2023 and September 2025 my job was buying Google Ads and Meta Ads, and the spend I handled came to nearly $700K. For every paid source, the only number I came to trust was paying customers, not clicks or replies.
What one pack looks like
The result depends on repeat work, so record repeat customers under the Bark label for as long as the customer keeps booking. Compare cost per paid job with what your other sources cost; cleaning business marketing covers those.
How does Bark compare with Thumbtack on cost?
The documented difference is who picks each paid lead. On Bark you buy credits up front and spend them on each customer you choose, and the credits expire after 3 months.
Thumbtack charges a lead automatically at your lead price when a customer who found you contacts you. It charges for an Opportunity only if the customer answers your quote, and keeps a percentage of the job price on Preset jobs. More in is Thumbtack worth it. Neither page proves one is cheaper for your trade.
What should I ask Bark before buying a pack?
- What does the pack I am buying cost in dollars, and how many credits does it hold?
- What have recent leads in my category and ZIP code cost in credits, and how many responses did they usually draw?
- Who marks me as hired for the Get Hired Guarantee, and where can I see that status?
- Can I see credit cost by lead after purchase, to match against my records?
- What does Elite Pro cost per month, and does its 20% discount apply to the pack I am buying?

Frequently asked questions
Is Bark.com free for professionals?
Joining is free and Bark says it sends leads for free from sign-up. You pay in credits only when you choose to contact a customer. Bark says follow-up messages after that first contact cost nothing extra.
How much does Bark charge for a lead?
It differs lead by lead, and each lead shows its cost in credits before you respond. Bark sets that cost from the service, the size and value of the job, the area and how ready the customer is to hire. Its US help center lists a standard rate of $2.35 per credit, lower in bigger packs, but prints no pack sizes or pack prices.
Do Bark credits expire?
Yes. Credits bought on or after November 1, 2025 expire 3 months after purchase, and expired credits are not refunded. Buy a pack you can realistically use inside that window.
What is Bark's Get Hired Guarantee?
It covers your first Starter Pack or first app purchase. If you use those credits and are not marked as hired on Bark, Bark returns the credits you used, once you have run out and at least 3 calendar days after your last lead purchase. You get credits back, not money, and only once per purchase.
How many professionals can respond to one Bark request?
Up to 5, according to Bark's help center. You can see how many have already responded before you buy the lead, and a lead tagged 1st to respond has not been contacted by any other professional yet.
How do I know if Bark leads are worth the credits?
Tag every Bark contact as its own source, then count contacts, replies, quotes and paid jobs. Divide what the credits cost by the paid jobs they produced, and compare that to what one job earns you after your own costs.
